2022 Can Am X3 Review

The RS line is specifically built to perform in the desert with its 72-inch wide track, powerful engine, and state-of-the-art suspension grouping. Stability, confidence, and control all came to the fore when Can-Am designed this range of machines. For 2022 it doesn’t fix what isn’t broken.

2022 Can Am X3

There are no major changes for 2022 apart from every X3 unit receiving Smart-Lok differential locking technology and a slight increase in engine power output from 195 to 200 hp.

  • Powerful engine, a few feet of suspension travel, top-level performance trim, roof, LED lights all over, and big 32-inch tires.
  • Price is high even for the base non-X RS trim, the interior still feels dated, the 72-inch track width can make transporting it difficult in some trailers.
  • This is Can-Am’s ultimate pure sport created side by side to tackle desert tracks. It packs everything Can-Am knows about racing into one machine and is offered in several different flavors where suspension items are changed to help fit various budget brackets. This rig still dominates in the sand, but somehow it still feels dated due to the bland interior without modern amenities like speakers or navigation.

Powertrain: Engine, Transmission and Performance

All RS trim levels feature an updated 900cc Rotax ACE three-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 200 hp. Can-Am’s PDrive and QRS-X CVT manage power transfer to the axles via the Smart-Lok-equipped drivetrain in each vehicle for 2022.

Smart-Lok technology offers four different traction modes—two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive with lock front drive differential, active four-wheel-drive lane, and four-wheel drive lane—which can be quickly adjusted by the driver to maximize traction on various terrains.

Handling

The standard Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 suspension components handle articulation on non-X RS trim vehicles, offering an impressive 22-inch suspension travel. The RS X trim jumps to the front Fox 2.5 and Fox 3.0 Podium RC2 rear components which offer similar 22-inch suspension travel up front and an impressive 24-inch suspension at the rear.

While the QS3 system offers single damping control, the RC2 suspension allows the driver to perform high-speed compression, low-speed compression and rebound damping. The rear RC2 shock utilizes a remote reservoir that mounts to the rear roll cage frame and provides 2-foot articulation to withstand those big bump bumps, stabilize the rhythm section, and save your spine when those invisible washouts crop up.

The Smart-Shox RS trim incorporates Fox’s semi-active intelligent suspension. It self-adjusts up to 200 times per second on compression and rebound damping settings. It can go from full soft to full hard in 17 milliseconds when predicting you’ll just send it. Unlike some other intelligent shock systems, this system can also be adjusted by the driver through three modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.

Brakes

Each RS trim features a large 262mm ventilated rotor at the front encased by hydraulic dual-piston calipers. The rear uses a smaller 248mm ventilated rotor with the same hydraulic dual-piston calipers. Braking performance is strong and predictable, exactly what you want when stretching its legs in the desert.

Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility

Inside the cockpit of the non-X RS, buyers will find a signature list of Maverick X3 features: four-way adjustable bucket seats, heavy bearings, and an adjustable steering wheel. The RS X and Smart-Shox cockpits enhance excellence with a four-point harness and full roof. Both trims offer center mirrors.

All doors open from the front via an internal locking system, including the rear doors on the four seats.

All RS machines provide a small rear cargo area incorporating the Can-Am LinQ quick-mount system.

Payload/Towing

The rear cargo area is rated to hold 200 pounds in two seats and 150 pounds in four seats. Both incorporate the LinQ quick install system.

While there is no towing hitch receiver on any of the Maverick X3 models, a recovery latch is provided at the rear of every RS trim vehicle. This is not rated for towing, only vehicle recovery.

The Electronics

Non-X Trimoffer a smaller 4.5-inch digital dashboard display. The X gives you a larger 7.5-inch digital dashboard view. Each sits at the front of the wheel to allow the driver to monitor various vehicle metrics.

Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hour meters, fuel, gear position, Sport and Eco modes, seat belt and 4×4 indicator, front and rear diff lock indicator, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage, engine temperature, and DPS mode are all available to be monitored on the dashboard via the keypad system. Smart Shox vehicles also add that reading to the dashboard.

Full LED lighting is used in every vehicle, powered by a powerful 850-watt magnet that offers plenty of room to attach additional power-hungry accessories.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage A

six-month limited warranty is included with every Maverick X3 model. The option of an extended warranty is available at the time of purchase.

2022 Can Am X3 Ds Turbo RR

The Can-Am Maverick X3 X DS Turbo RR/Max 2022 openings into the arrangement simply over the base 120 hp Maverick X3 DS Turbo. You get updated suspension parts, a bigger computerized dashboard show, an all the more impressive magneto, and 80 extra hp from the 900cc Rotax ACE motor.

  • The adjustable Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 and RC2 suspension smooth out the rough stuff. Low sports car seating ergonomics. Class-leading 200 hp, turbocharged Rotax ACE engine. Can-Am Smart-Lok full differential drive mode technology. Big tires, a full LED light package, and underbody skid plates are all standards.
  • Even at the high price tag, the roof is still not a standard kit. There is no infotainment system. There is no USB charging port. Only a quarter of the door. The less expensive non-X models still use the older 4.5-inch digital dashboard display.
  • The entry-level 200 hp Maverick X3 trim level is pretty much everything you’ll need to get through just about any terrain you’ll point this machine at. It doesn’t need to be the luxury of the pricier models, but it’s still expensive with a $2,000 increase over the base Maverick X3 DS Turbo for the non-X trim, and a $5,900 increase for the X model with upgraded, larger Fox RC2 shocks. 7.5-inch digital dashboard display.

Update for 2022

Class-leading 200 hp from the 900cc Rotax ACE three-cylinder turbocharged engine. This is an increase of 5 hp from the previous year which reached 195 hp. Octane Blue has been removed as a color option for the two-seater model but remains for the four-seater.

Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Can-Am has pressed 5 extra hp from its 900cc Rotax ACE three-chamber turbocharged motor for 2022, presently evaluated as a class-driving 200 hp. All that power turns a similar QRS-X CVT transmission and is constrained by the cutting-edge Smart-Lok drivetrain framework. Four modes give manual or PC helped footing to either the back hub or every one of the four wheels. The Maverick X3 DS Turbo RR and its X variation sit close to the highest point of the unadulterated games market next to each other as far as pure execution.

Handling

Advanced Fox 2.5 Podium RC2 piggyback shocks provide dual-speed compression and full rebound adjustment at all four corners for the X model, while Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 shocks grace the corners of the regular Turbo RR trim. On the back, you’ll also get bottom-out control for both systems. The dual A-arm geometry at the front works in conjunction with a four-link torsional trailing-arm system at the rear to provide a trophy-truck level of handling. Each end of the Maverick X3 uses a sway bar to help control body roll during evasive maneuvers. Industry-leading suspension technology combined with a lightweight chassis and race-inspired cockpit result in an aggressive engine that is ready to run.

30-inch Maxxis Carnivore tires wrap around 14-inch aluminum wheels (with factory beading on the X trim) to put all that power to the ground.

Brake

The front 262mm dual ventilated disc brakes are accented by the 248mm rear dual ventilated disc brakes. Dual-piston hydraulic calipers wrap around all four discs to speed down the Maverick X3 hastily. Taming 200 ponies in a machine that weighs less than 500 pounds the Suzuki Samurai means having a braking system ready for anything. These brakes meet or exceed what is required for weekend driving or the occasional hit on amateur racing circuits.

Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility

The low-cushion seat with a high back provides four-way adjustment to nail that perfect position and rotate in forwarding visibility. The race-inspired cockpit feels aggressive with sharp lines, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a large, driver-centered digital gauge display. The quarter doors open from the front, in collaboration with the D-shaped steering wheel, for easy entry and exit. Each seat and surrounding bodywork is primed for a five-point seat belt. The rear seats in the four-seater Max model lose the adjustment that the front row presents, but it is still possible to take advantage of the five points.

Payload / Towing

The rear rack is rated for 200 pounds of gear with the LinQ quick-mount system. No rear hitch receiver. Can-Am has included a simple tow hook for rear recovery.

Electronic

The non-X trim retains the 4.5-inch digital display that’s smaller than the previous-generation X3 engine. On the X3 X DS Turbo RR, the upgraded 7.5-inch digital display sits right in front of the steering wheel to provide vehicle metrics. This is not the full-color screen that most other brands use. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hour meters, fuel, gear position, Sport and Eco modes, seat belt, and 4×4 indicators, front and rear diff lock indicators, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage, engine temperature, and DPS mode are monitored from in the vehicle’s digital display.

Full LED lighting wraps side-by-side, powered by an 850-watt magnet ready to work with all your future energy-consuming modifications.

2022 Can Am Maverick X3 HP

The 200HP 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 marks the emergence of the most powerful UTV from the factory.

The craze for off-roading is to ride day-on-day and what better vehicle than a UTV to make the most of their rugged and challenging terrain. One of the wildest players in the side-by-side line-up is Can-Am with its aggressive line-up of off-road addicts. Well, things are for the better as Can-Am has introduced the most powerful side-by-side from the factory, the Can-Am Maverick X3 2022.

This has become a versatile offering from Can-Am with commendable features and some serious off-road credibility! And it’s not just the old simple boost job, or ECU remap that has been done this time around. Everything from the chassis, suspension, and electronics has been worked from the ground up to work with the most powerful ROTAX engine lineup.

Everything attached to it has been strengthened and upgraded to suit the added horses. Inside, there are adjustable seats, and a 6-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system with RGB lighting, to really light up your ride! This is a bold feat for UTV and they have come a long way in terms of technological advancements and performance figures. And all this fun can be had with an MSRP starting at $19,999. Oh! And wait until you see the many trims on offer.

The 200HP 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 marks the emergence of the most powerful UTV from the factory.

The Widest Upgrade List Ever

The 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 happens to be the most updated side-by-side at home. It gets the most powerful all-new engine on UTV. Everything around this engine like the chassis, suspension and brakes has been upgraded to address the added performance. It also gets Smart Lok, which Can-Am claims is “the most advanced off-road front differential”.

The interior has also been revamped with a 4-way bucket seat that can be adjusted to a lower seating position, and an audio roof. And the list of accessories is endless, which gives this UTV a sense of style with practicality shrouded in it. Cool new graphics keep the crazy vibe alive on the outside.

2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 Comes In 17 Crazy Trims

This is where you’ll be spoiled for choice as the 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 is offered in 17 trim levels that are widely spread. It starts with the base Maverick X3 DX Turbo which has an MSRP of $19,999 and continues all the way up to the 4-door Maverick X3 Max X MR Turbo RR (quite a mouthful) with an MSRP of $29,899. Yes! Even with 15 trims between the ends, the price difference isn’t even $10,000. The base DS Turbo trim is the only one equipped with 120 horses.

Anything that only has a ‘Turbo’ ending has 120 HP and anything with a ‘Turbo RR’ has 200 horses. The 2-door Mavericks come in configurations tailored to the type of terrain and are divided into Performance, Rock, and Mud. The 4-door Mavericks is offered in Performance and Mud configurations. The difference between the terrain-specific format is focused on the tires and suspension layout to give you the most out of what this crazy machine can offer.

The Most Powerful Factory Machine Side By Side

The 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 packs the most powerful engine on UTV. Interestingly, this isn’t a tough task for insiders as their 2021 Turbo RR model has put out 195 HP (best in class). But then again, 200 horses to side by side from the factory is a feat! Can-Am achieved this by upgrading their Rotax ACE three-cylinder 900cc engine with reinforced pistons, a new turbocharger, a more breathable intercooler, and a high-performance filter to suck in air with gusto!

They also covered the famous clutch setup from last year. The reworked clutch system now uses Can-Am’s new pDrive roller-clutch system and a CVT Quick Response System X (QRS-X) gearbox. The chassis has also been upgraded to match the newly brewed engine. All that power minus the added weight means the 2022 Can-Am Maverick X3 packs the insane power-to-weight ratio of any UTV.

The Smartest Off-Roading Bit On UTV

Can-Am clearly knows what’s at stake to build a powerful machine that can handle all the abuse. The Maverick X3 2022 packs some of the most advanced and adaptable off-road tools out there. It can be had with tires ranging from 30-inch mud-resistant to 32-inch Maxxis Carnivore tires; to get sand high in the air.

It also gets what Can-Am calls ‘Smart Lok’ which is a fully lockable on-the-fly feature to any of the axles. Can-Am also developed the industry’s first self-adjusting suspension with FOX, called the Smart-Shox. This is coupled with an intelligent dual A-arm suspension arrangement that improves handling characteristics. It comes with 4 riding/terrain modes that help you make the most of this bad boy.

‘LIT’ Interior With Roof Mounted Speaker

The interior has also been reworked with a new Ergo-Lok cockpit layout. It gets a 4-way bucket seat that can be adjusted to a lower sitting position. The dashboard is the same and packs all the drive selection switches in the middle. But the coolest addition this year is the ‘Lit’ audio setting.

It comes with a roof-mounted six-speaker RGB layout that enables Bluetooth and pairs to Rockford Fosgate audio receivers and RMC amplifiers. The system is waterproof and features a multi-colored LED ring.

Flying Over the Dunes That Gets Better

Can-Am always strives to provide the most capable UTV out there. With many recent updates, they’ve once again taken over and given us a mental engine, to catch some serious air. All impressive upgrades to the X3, making it one of the most co-existent on the market today.

2022 Can Am X3 Audio Roof

Here comes the new waterproof sound system. 6 speakers with Bluetooth compatibility, multi-colored LEDs, an RMC amp and a genuine Rockford Fosgate audio receiver to enhance your playlist while you’re out there in the dunes or riding your own drums. It sounds good? You bet!

2022 Can Am X3 Clutch

For the 2022 model year, Can-Am has reengineered the clutch system for the Maverick X3 Turbo RR model. 2022 Can Am X3 Price

We’d go for the 2022 Can Am X3 For Sale X RS 2022 Can Am X3 Turbo RR For Sale with the top-tier trim package without the Fox Smart Shox. We’ve never come across an active valve system that warrants paying thousands extra when any local suspension shop can do better for less. Getting bigger tires, additional suspension travel, and an improved dashboard look helped to resell. If you have the cash, grab the Smart Shox trim. If you have four people to entertain, take the Max, and if you can’t stand the cost but want a desert RS trim with a 72-inch wide track, go for the non-X.
