2022 Can Am Outlander 650 lineup comes in various variants: Outlander 650, Outlander DPS 650, Outlander XT 650, Outlander Mossy Oak Edition 650, Outlander X MR 650. We had ridden the Mossy Oak Edition the previous year extensively in New Hampshire and found few faults. with the engine and execution. There are bigger and worse Outlanders, but the 650 fits a wide variety of riders well and is reasonably priced given its capabilities.

The Visco-4Lok is now part of the Outlander X MR 650 package, a very welcome addition that allows the rider to choose when the front differential is fully locked or when the engine is left alone.

  • UPS

You really can’t go wrong with any of the Outlander 650 models. That said, it’s not a light machine, and we wholeheartedly recommend at least stepping up to the Outlander DPS 650, as the addition of the fantastic Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering Can-Am goes a long way. especially at low speeds. That said, our pick was the Outlander XT 650. We love the factory-backed winch, bumper, and handguards, and are suckers for the Oxford Blue plastic.

2022 Can Am Outlander Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Can-Am 650cc V-twin Rotax engine is still going strong today. With 62 hp and a hoarse exhaust note, it’s sure to please. Power delivery is linear and the engine accelerates violently. It’s even a fuel-efficient machine, as we were able to go over 50 miles on a half tank in our rather aggressive test drive. The only downside is that Rotax can run a little hot.

2022 Can Am Outlander

Power flows through the Can-Am continuously variable transmission, which has regular high, low, neutral, reverse, and parking gears. It works well but some riders have reported it can be prone to slipping off the belt at low speeds over rough terrain. We recommend using the low range as much as possible.

2022 Can Am Outlander Handling

The Outlander 650 isn’t a Renegade, but it still easily follows a sportier machine on all but the tightest and most technical trails. A well-tuned and sequenced chassis is a big part of this. For what most consider a full working quad, the Outlander is a blast on the trail. The back pops up effortlessly and predictably, and the angle is better than anyone expected.

In our experience, the Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering is a fantastic unit, allowing the Outlander Mossy Oak Edition 650 we recently tested to drive in 4WD as if it were still in 2WD. We hoped keeping the front differential fully locked via the new Visco-4Lok on the Outlander X MR 650 would change this, but the Visco-Lok QE auto-lock front differential performed flawlessly in our use. We never worry too much about the engine jamming.

2022 Can Am Outlander Brake

Dual 214mm disc brakes with hydraulic dual-piston calipers at the front and single 214mm disc brakes with hydraulic dual-piston calipers at the rear handle stopping duties. This system provides more than enough stopping power for any situation when lowering the Outlander from high speed when the machine can become slightly unstable at rest. We didn’t like the single lever for controlling the front and rear brakes, but less experienced riders would find it an easy-to-use system.

2022 Can Am Outlander Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility

While not as comfortable as comparable Polaris models for all-day driving, the Outlander 650 is a pleasure to drive. The ergonomics are solid and everything is positioned so riders of almost any size will find it easy to pass the time, although those with higher height and weight percentiles may find it a little smaller than ideal. However, 99 percent of users will enjoy spending time in Outlander.

A great utility for a machine with this function, and we like the additional front bumper available in some of the higher trims. In addition, the shelf is useful and has a nice, sticky texture. There’s a small storage compartment at the back, which Can-Am claims is “dry storage”, although it didn’t prove watertight in our tests.

2022 Can Am Outlander Payload / Towing

The Outlander 650 has a strong towing capacity of 1,650 pounds.

2022 Can Am Outlander Electronic

The Can-Am Outlander 650 model comes with good technology to make it feel like a luxury machine. There’s a large, clear 4.5-inch digital display with a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hour meters, gear position, 4×4 indicator, temperature, engine lights, electronic fuel gauge, and clock.

Additionally, a lighter type DC outlet hides in the console, and there’s a standard 15-amp connector on the back. Lighting comes from twin 60-watt projectors and dual 55-watt reflectors with taillights and rear brake light. Some Outlander 650s are equipped with a winch, and those that are not equipped are pre-wired.

The Can-Am RF Digitally Encoded Security System (DESS) is present in some models and provides security and multiple locks for throttle and speed limiting purposes.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Review

This buyer’s guide highlights each model’s 1000R trim level—the Outlander XT 1000R, Outlander XT-P 1000R, Outlander X XC 1000R, and the mud-only Outlander X MR 1000R. What they have in common is the 91 hp Rotax V-twin engine. Each ATV includes a variety of options that make up the X appearance package: matching colors, bumpers, aluminum alloy wheels, and handguards.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Update

There are no major changes for the Outlander apart from various color options upgrades for the new year.

  • UPS
The most powerful Can-Am ATV offering with 91 hp Rotax engine, premium features on every model, intelligent throttle control with customizable ride modes
  • Downs
Prices start at $10,999, halogen headlights instead of LEDs, only two of the four trims have a fully locked front differential
  • Verdict
There are four trim levels of the Outlander 1000R, so this model offers something for everyone. The 1000R vehicle series sets the standard for engine performance at 91 hp, providing consumers looking for something to buy with an added engine sound. If maximum power is at the top of your list of requirements for a 4WD ATV, you’ve arrived.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Price

  • 2022 Can-Am Outlander XT 1000R MSRP: $12,749
  • 2022 Can-Am Outlander XT-P 1000R MSRP: $14,649
  • 2022 Can-Am Outlander X XC 1000R MSRP: $14,899
  • 2022 Can-Am Outlander X MR 1000R MSRP: $14,499

Which one you should buy depends on your use case. The Outlander X MR 1000R is perfect for those who spend most of their driving time in deep mud. It is longer than other single-seat models because it shares the same chassis as the two-seat Max Outlander.

Closed storage replaces the second seat and the wheelbase is extended to 59 inches. It also includes snorkel air inlets, an elevated radiator, a 3,500-pound winch, Fox 1.5 podium shocks, 30-inch ITP mud tires on 14-inch aluminum wheels, and is one of the two models listed here with Visco-Can. -Am.

4Lock front differential. The X XC is a great hit-any-trail quad with an aluminum front bumper and top support, aluminum skid plates, aluminum A-arm guards, Fox 1.5 Podium QS3 shocks, and 26-inch ITP Terracross tires on 14-inch cast-aluminum Beadlock wheels.

The XT trim gets you up to a 1000R quad for the least amount of money, but still includes a 3,500-pound winch, heavy-duty front, and rear bumpers, handguards, and cast-aluminum wheels.

But if you ask us, we’ll point to the XT-P. It’s a bit cheaper but still comes with Fox 1.5 Podium QS3 shocks, full-wrap handguards, factory Beadlock wheels, 3,500-pound winch, and our favorite feature: a fully locking Visco-4Lok front differential.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Each of these ATVs includes a 976cc, 91 hp Rotax V-twin engine from Can-Am. This is the largest displacement engine available on all Can-Am ATVs. Each Outlander 1000R model has an automatic CVT transmission with standard engine-braking technology.

The transmission covers high and low ranges as well as parking, neutral, and reverse. Select 2WD and 4WD from the bar-mounted rocker switch, and 4WD operation includes the Visco-Lok QE auto-lock differential on the Outlander XT 1000R and Outlander X XC 1000R. The Outlander X MR 1000R and Outlander XT-P receive a 4WD performance boost with a fully lockable Visco-4Lok front differential.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Handling

The 1000R engine makes each of these ATVs the heaviest in their trim. Nonetheless, Can-Am has done a good job of minimizing the bulky feel of this powerful ATV with dynamic power steering, intelligent throttle control, and Fox Podium suspension components. Note that the Outlander XT is the only one in the 1000R lineup that doesn’t include Fox suspension components, but still includes the same 9.2-inch suspension up front and nearly 10 inches in the rear. The package comes together to make a demonic imprint weapon that handles pretty well despite its power.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Brake

Braking is handled in the form of dual 214mm front disc brakes with dual-piston hydraulic calipers and single 214mm rear disc brakes with dual-piston hydraulic calipers.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility

All chairs are almost the same. You get a padded saddle that narrows towards the front, great for long day trips. The handlebars are high and wide, a nice neutral setting that most riders will feel comfortable with. Each includes fenders and fender flares as standard. Footwells are large and protective. Only the Outlander X MR includes a wide-body plastic that extends further to add extra mud protection.

Every ATV, except the Outlander X XC, comes with a 3,500-pound front-mounted winch as standard. All include a 5.4-gallon fuel tank and a 5.7 liter rear storage compartment.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Payload / Towing

The Outlander XT and XT-P have front and rear racks. They can handle 100 pounds and 200 pounds, respectively. The Outlander X XC and X MR eliminate the front rack, including only the rear rack which weighs 200 pounds.

Each ATV is rated for 1,650 pounds of towing with a standard rear receiver hitch.

2022 Can Am Outlander 1000R Electronic

Although it looks old-fashioned, Can-Am includes a 4.5-inch digital display on the Outlander XT 1000R. It’s not a TFT colorful screen, but it gets the job done. The Outlander X XC, XT-P, and X MR 1000R models all get a larger 7.6-inch display. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip- and hour meters, gear position, 4×4 indicator, temperature, engine status light, electronic fuel gauge, and clock are all on the rider dashboard.
