2023 Can Am X3 Review
Can-Am revealed additional changes to its UTV 2023 lineup this week, making some small but important updates to two of its most popular rigs. The Can-Am Maverick X3 DS Turbo 2023 gets the most exciting change, jumping from 120 hp to 135 hp. Instead of firing a salvo in the sports segment’s inevitable horsepower war with Polaris, the Quebecois brand is directing its efforts to increase its mid-tier dollar-per-smile factor side by side.
The Can-Am Maverick X3 DS 2023 gets extra power thanks to a new turbo, bigger injectors, new ECU, and revised ECU tuning. Can-Am also reworked the pDrive X3 DS main clutch to make the rig accelerate faster and run more quietly.
The Can-Am Maverick X3 X DS Turbo RR 2023 top-dog will come with a four-point harness and a sports roof as standard. As of now, buyers have had to settle for a three-point harness and an open top. The only option for extra shade and safety is to visit an accessory catalog or aftermarket.
Beyond those changes, the Maverick X3 lineup gets a slick new silver and gold color scheme. Everything else stays as it is in 2022, which is a great thing.
The Can-Am Defender 2023 utility lineup gets a little more capable than this year’s rigs, thanks to new A-arms and 30-inch tires on several trim levels. Arched A-arms will be coming to the Defender DPS CAB, Defender Limited, Defender Lone Star, and Defender X MR. We’re already hooked on the Defender, so more clearance and bigger tires are very good prospects. The Can-Am Defender X MR 2023 will now be standard with half doors.
Not only have the tires gotten a little bigger, the standard tires have also been updated for the ’23 Defenders. The X MR will now use XPS Swamp Force tires as standard. The Defender DPS HD10 and Defender XT HD10 will now sport the XPS Trail Kings, and the Defender Limited HD10 and Lone Star HD10 will get XPS Trac Force tires.

There’s some exciting news coming from BRP regarding the 2023 Can-Am SSV lineup. The company updated most of its off-road products or at least upgraded/changed them in some form. New color combinations and options are available, while some models are also seeing some styling adjustments.
Here are some of the most notable changes in a nutshell:
There’s a new 135-hp turbo engine and pDrive main clutch on all Maverick X3 DS Turbo
New curved a-arms add more than two inches of suspension travel on all Defender DPS CAB, Limited, Lone Star, and X
The new Platinum half doors are available in several models.
New 3-inch XPS Trac Force tires are on all Defender Limited and Lone Star models.
News about the Can-Am Turbo RR. belt heat alarm system
Turbo RR vehicles get a belt temperature alarm system. These are the audio and visual alerts that consumers demand a lot. Hopefully, Can-Am (among others) can deploy this system throughout their lineup as most of their vehicles have belt-driven CVTs.
What about electrification?
Yes, BRP/Can-Am are serious enough to add an all-electric product to their lineup. 300 million has been invested in EV research. We now have the first step is an electric motorcycle. Can-Am Origin and Pulse will be followed by the all-electric Sea-Doo boat.
